Annual Report, 2017-18

It is matter of proud privilege to me to present the Annual Report 2017-18. It gives immense pleasure to observe that our institution has evolved qualitatively in the past few years. The credit for this successful evolution goes to the concerted efforts of the parents, teachers and the school management. This Team work has seen to it that the school has become a centre of academic excellence in this region.

Admission and Academic Result

At present we have on roll 1130 students studying in Preprimary, Primary, Middle, Secondary and Senior Secondary Sections. We have sent 14 batches of class X students all scoring 100% success. 23 students topped the AISSE, 2017 batch winning A1 Grade in all subjects. 75% of the total candidates secured distinction and 25% secured First Class.

Parent Teacher Association

Regular Class wise PTA meetings take place after every terminal examination. A General Body Meeting was held on 08 July, 2018 and Class-wise PTA meetings were held on 7 November 2017. A new PTA panel including parent representative of each class has been elected to hold office for the new term. Mr.K Abdul Jaleel K steers the PTA and the MPTA is headed by Ms. Foumina K. The members of the Executive Committee include Mr. Abdu Rahman O P, Ms. Shaharban A K, Ms. Sabira Faizal, Ms. Hafsa Gafoor, Ms. Shahina T K, Ms. Nadeera, Mr . Asif Hussain T P, Ms. Zeenath, Ms. Geetha Devi C K, Ms. Usha Kumari, Ms. Ansana Mol, Ms . Afzath K, Ms. Nima Mohan and Ms. Indu P R. in 2017-18, we could convene 6 PTA Executive Meetings. The wholehearted support and creative criticisms of the PTA body has gone a long way in ensuring smooth functioning of institution.

Teaching Faculty

Committed involvement of teaching and non-teaching staff has made the functioning of the school smooth and effortless. The teaching community is provided with ample opportunity to update their knowledge and techniques. This is ensured by their frequent participation in Workshops and Orientation classes organized by CBSE Centre of Excellence, Vidya Sahodaya as well as by different private organizations. This year our teachers have attended more than 13 such workshops.

Programmes of Prominence

Co Scholastic activities are given their due weightage. Inter-house competitions among the children provide them with an opportunity to sharpen their literal and creative edges to a great extent. School organizes activities in connection with special days which ensure cognitive and behavioural transformation of the students.

The Entry Fest of the School Section was organized on 1 June 2017. A special assembly was conducted in the presence of Principal, PTA president, headmistress teachers and students. All the newly appointed teachers introduced themselves in the assembly.

The World Environment Daywas celebrated on 5 June 2017. A special assembly was conducted and Mr. M M Domenic, recipient of National Award for Farming inaugurated the programmes by planting a sapling in the school compound. A collage competition was arranged in connection with the Day.

Encomium, 2017, the felicitation programme of the toppers in AISSE & AISSCE, 2017 was held on 17 June 2017. The toppers were honoured with mementos by the Chief Guest of the occasion Dr. S Jayasree, Principal of Govt. College, Kodanchery.

On Reading Day on 19 June 2017, the school conducted a special assembly. A whole week programmes like reading competition, versification, bulletin board competitions were organised.

Ifthar Meet 2017 was organised by Samanwayam, the Staff Club, on 23 June 2017. Mr. K C Abduraheem, Co-ordinator, Media One, Qatar, delivered the Ifthar message.

Science Club of the School was inaugurated on 5th July 2017 by the Health Inspector of Mukkom Community Health Centre, Mr. K K Nassar. He conducted an awareness class on Dengue Fever.

The Social Department of the school arranged programmes in connection with the World Population Day on 11 July 2017. A Bulletin Board Competition was organized on the topic Family in Primary category and on Population in the Middle and Secondary categories.

Independence Day was celebrated on 15 August 2017 with a variety of colourful programmes. Mr. M.K Ahammed Kutty, Manager, hoisted the National Tri-colour. Students presented speeches and patriotic songs.

The Arts Fest, Malhar, 2017 was held on 16 &17, August, 2017. Housewise competitions on different items were conducted on five different stages.

Official inauguration of the Social Club was held on 30 August 2017 by Mr Musthafa Mankada.

Investiture Ceremony of the newly elected Student Council members was held on 20 October 2017. The Student Council consist of Head Boy Master. Hamdan Muhammed, Head Girl Ms.Najiya Sherin, Student Editor Theja Mohanan, General Captain Ashmil, Fine-Arts Secretary Rana Gafoor, Head Prefect (Boy) Muhammed Nazwan, Head Prefect (Girl) Fathima Jishana, CEEC Leader (Boy) Hishan Abdulla, CEEC Leader (Girl) Liyaa Sebin, House Captain (Blue House) Shabeeb, Vice Captain Jella mariyam, House Captain (Yellow) Sreeraj B, Vice Captain Safa Saleem, House Captain (Green) Adil Hanan, Vice Captain Haneen Hameed, House Captain (Red) Muhammed Shamil Ashraf , and Vice Captain Sheza Thanseel. Mr. Faisal Thayyil, Motor Vehicle Inspector, Sub Regional Transport Office, Koduvally graced the occasion as the Chief Guest.

A special Morning Assembly was conduct on 1 November 2017 to celebrate the Keralappiravi Dinam. The Principal delivered a special message and student representatives, Miss.Theja Mohanan and Miss.Sana Parveen spoke on the importance of the day. The assembly was ended with beautiful song by Lezin E.K.

Madhyamam Velicham programme was held on 15 November 2017. Mr.Basheer Koduvally, who sponsored nine copies of Madhyamam daily newspaper, was the Chief Guest of the occasion. Mr. Shafeeq.K C, reporter of Madhyamam, Omassery, felicitated the function.

A team of nine students and a teacher visited Centre for Water Resources Development and Management (CWRDM) at Kunnamangalam on 17 January 2018. The programme was organized in connection with Jaladarsan 2018. Students were provided with an opportunity to visit various labs and interact with the scientists.

18th December 2017 witnessed the Arabic Day celebration. Posters mentioning the importance of Arabic language were displayed in the campus.

National Mathematics Day was celebrated on 22 January 2018 to commemorate the birth anniversary of Srinivasa Ramanujan. A special assembly was convened and a message mentioning the importance of Mathematics in day to day life was delivered by the Head Mistress Ms.Jayasree M.

Thirty students from class IV with their teachers participated at the Koythulsavam 2018 organised at Royad Farm at Omassery on 25 January 2018. Students participated in some of the competitions conducted there and won prizes.

69th Republic Day was celebrated on 26 January 2018. The Principal hoisted the National Flag and delivered the Republic Day message. Students presented speeches and patriotic songs.

A Sky Watch programme was organized in connection with the Blood Moon Day on 31 January 2018. The programme was organized in collaboration with Astro Club, Kozhikode. Mr.Suhair Ali, inaugurated the programme and took a class for the parents and students. Parents and students were provided with an opportunity to watch the Super Moon through the Cassegrain Telescope.

Annual Sports Meet, 2018 was organized on 5 & 6 February 2018. Spirited competitions in 5 categories were held among the 4 houses. The Valedictory Function was inaugurated by Mr. M Abdul Latheef, General Secretary of Islamic Welfare Trust.

A Parenting Session was organized for the parents of Class 6 & 7 on 7 February 2018. Renowned Trainer, Mr.Hemapalan from OISCA International, handled the class on Role of Family in shaping the Society.

A two day Capacity Building Programme for the teachers was organized under the aegis of CBSE Centre of Excellence, Kochi on Classroom Management on 9 & 10 February 2018. Along with 14 faculty members from Pleasant, 41 teachers from various schools in and around Kozhikode attended the programme. Mr.K Abdul Salam, Secretary, School Managing Committee inaugurated the programme.

Study Tours were organized for all classes to various destinations. A two day tour was organized for students from Class 9 to 12 on 31 December 2017 & 1 January 2018. Students visited Kodaikkanal, Theni and Ramakkal Medu.

Students from Class 6 to 8 visited Munnar, Eravikulam National Park and Mattupetty Dam on 19 & 20 January 2018.

A one day tour was organized for students from Class 3 to 5 to Malampuzha Dam and Fantasy Park, Palakkad on 12 February 2018.

Students from Montessori Section and Classes 1 & 2 visited Silisila, Manjeri on 22 February 2018 and 3 March 2018 respectively.

As a part of improving the technical skills of the teachers, a one day workshop on Techno Pedagogic Environment at Ideal Public School, Kuttiadi on 19.10.2017. 32 faculties attended the training.

Students from Class 7 were taken on a visit to Sargalaya Craft Village at Iringal on 08.01.2018. The intention of the visit was to familiarize our students with the indigenous craft work and also to instill the value of dignity of labour.

Two of students from Class VIII got an opportunity to attend the Tinkers’ Salon, 2K18, an event organized by Atal Tinkering Lab of Al Haramain Public School, Kozhikode on 3 March 2018. Students had an opportunity to interact with renowned scientist from, ISRO and Regional Science Centre, Kozhikode.

KIDS PLANET – THE HOUSE OF MODERN MONTESSORI


The Entry Fest of Kids Planet, Montessori section took place on 5 June 2017. A parenting session was handled by Prof. Ms. Tessy Mathew, the Vice Principal of Santhi Nursing College on the topic Food and Hygiene.

The Art Fest of Montessori section was conducted on 29th and 30th of August 2017.

Sports Meet of Montessori Section was held on 12 December 2017. Director, Mr.T Prakash, officially flagged off the meet.

Fruits Day was celebrated on 20 December 2017. The hall was decorated with colour papers and fruits. Fruits were cut in various shapes and arranged attractively. The function was inaugurated by Mr.Mubarack, the Administrator of Santhi Hospital, Omassery. Fruit salad was served to all children. The Day helped them to know more about fruits and their nutritional values.

The Colours Day was held on 22 September 2017. This year the colour selected was red. All students came to the class in red colour dresses. The classes were decorated with balloons, pictures, flowers and ribbons, everything in red. The children were taken to the School Section and presented red roses to the Principal, Head Mistress and Administrative Officer.

28 September 2017 was observed as Health Care Day. As a part of this day, a medical camp was organised to determine the blood group and the vision of the children. This was done with the support of a medical team of 13 members from Santhi Hospital.

A Farm Visit was organised to the Green Land Farm at Maripuzha near Anakkampoyil on 5 October 2017. The main intention of the trip was to introduce the kids to domestic animals and birds. The barn and the coop presented a new experience to the kids.

The Kids Fest 2017 was held at Nest Public School, Ramanttukara on the 18th of November, 2017. Twenty children from the Montessori Section and eleven children from the school section participated in the fest. Our kids actively participated and won many prizes.

Kids Planet observed 10 January, 2018 as Kindness Day. They visited Akasha Paravakal an asylum for the mentally disabled. A cheque of Rs.10,000/- was handed over to Mr. Thomas, the caretaker of the Asylum by Mr. K Abdul Salam, Secretary of School Managing Committee. The stationery items and groceries collected by the students were also handed over. The meeting was followed by some entertainment programmes by the students.

A team of 15 students and teachers from Montessori along with the Secretary of School Management Committee visited Karunyatheeram, a Special School run by the Health Care Foundation, Poonor and handed over stationery items, and groceries worth Rs.20000/-.

8 March, 2018 was celebrated as the Montessori Day, by the Kids Planet. Stalls were arranged as Craft Corner, Game Zone, Montessori Activity Corner and Yummy Corner. A Medical Expo was organized on Embryology by the medical team from Santhi Hospital, Omassery. The programme was well organized and was highly appreciated by the parents.

COMMUNITY SERVICE

As an extended activity to the Environmental Day Celebration we joined our hands with the Municipal Corporation on 13th of June for a cleaning programme. Fifty students accompanied by three teachers reached Thechyad Junction for the inaugural function. Municipal Council member Mr. Muhammed inaugurated the programme. Our students participated whole-heatedly in the programme and cleaned the drainage from Thechyad to the Nadukil. This programme enriched the social responsibility of our students to keep the environment clean.

The School organized Onam Bakrid kit distribution on 30 August 2017 at Mampidichalil Laksham Veedu Colony premises, Omassery. The main intention of the celebration was to uphold the needs of the weaker sections in the Society. Kits were distributed to the members of the colony by Mr. M Abdul Latheef, General Secretary, IWT, Omassery. The School has distributed around 25 Kits for the selected ones for which money was collected by the students.

ACHIEVMENTS

2017-18 was a golden year to Pleasant in curricular and cocurricular areas. Our kids proved their mettle in the competition held by Vidya Sahodaya and Malabar Sahodaya.

VIDYA SAHODAYA KALOTSAV

Pleasant lifted the Overall Champion Trophy in Vidya Sahodaya Kalotsav 2017-18 held at Mount Flower English School, Uliyil. The school bagged Overall Trophies First Position in Cat.1, 2 & 3 and Overall Runner Up Trophy in Cat.4.

The First and Second Position winners in the Vidya Sahodaya Kalotsav, participated at the State CBSE Kalotsav held at IES, Chittilappilly, Thrissur. Master Adheeb Farhan of Class IX won the First Poisition in Mappilappattu Cat.3.

Our students bagged the Overall Champions Trophy in Synergy, the IT & Work Experience Fest held at Ansar English School, Perumpilavu, Thrissur. They won Overall Runner Up Trophies in all the three Categories in IT & Work Experience.

he school athletic team put up an enhanced performance to win the Overall Runner Up Trophy in Cat.3 in the Vidya Interschool Athletic Meet held at Mount Seena Public School, Pathirippala, Palakkad.

The Girls Kho kho team won the Championship Trophy at the Vidya Sahodaya Kho Kho Championship under 14 Kho kho Tournament held at Kaoser English School, Kannur.

In the Vidya Sahodaya Kabbadi Championship held at Kaoser English School, Kannur, our Kabbadi Team under 19 won the 3rd position.

In the Vidya Sahodaya Chess Championship held at Kaoser English School, Kannur, Master Sreeraj of Class XI & Miss.Rasha Hasoon of Class IX won the 3rd and 1st positions respectively.

Three of our students won positions in the Karate Championship organized by Malabar Sahodaya on 13 November 2017 at Vadi Husna Public School, Elettil Vattili.

The institution which was established way back in 1993 has reached a milestone in its onward journey. We are completing 25 years of sterling service to the society. A set of well planned programmes are on the anvil for 2018-19. We are approaching the Silver Jubilee year with a well set vision. With the cooperation from all our well wishers, we are confident that the Silver Jubilee Year can be made an eventful one.
